Almost all the informal (1,15h long) Monday’s webinars are held in Italian (starting @ 19h15 ● UTC +1, Rome, I), and will be broadcast via web-radio linked live on YouTube. They have a medium level of difficulty. They are organized by Officine Thelo (a non profit Italian Association), under the auspices of the CEIMArs (the non profit Italian interdisciplinary Center for Performing Arts Medicine). All the webinars are specifically designed for the updating & training of all those who (not only among clinic and educational professionals) love the voice and the performing arts.

With a great pleasure, we draw the attention of science professionals and artists on a very important new publication:

Glenna Batson – Margaret Wilson, Body and Mind in Motion. Dance and Neuroscience in Conversation, Intellect, Bristol / Chicago, 2014.

It is a very exciting book in which any possible correlations between body, mind and movement are analyzed in a simple and never boring way. In the light of modern acquisitions in the fields of Neuroscience, Performing Arts Medicine, Choreography, Psychology, and Physiology, the Authors suggest the possible (theoretical and practical) ways to analyze the thought of movement and the movement of thought.

This is aimed not only to implement the performance and the choreo-urgy (the creative act of the choreographer) but, above all, to help the dancer, the circus performer and generically the artist of movement in order to recover – with the help of mirror neurons, and as possible he/she can – all physical, psychological and philosophical personal spaces. This improves both the performances and the awareness of own existence, and life itself.

Discovering the Farm Cultural Park in Favara, Sicily

On Sunday 31st August 2014, Cristina Lazzaro, Fabio Lazzara and Alfonso Gianluca Gucciardo, on behalf of the CEIMArs, were guests of dr Antonio Liotta MD, in order to have a terrific guided official visit to the FARM CULTURAL PARK in Favara, very famous Town near to Agrigento.
The Farm Cultural Park is a very huge space for the independent visual (and fine) arts. Founded by dr Sajeva and dr Bartoli, it is a venue for continous expositions of new artists in seven courtyards which shape the Cortile “Bentivegna”. Very wonderful little houses covered in white lime; little spaces of new ideas, a garden with a big cuisine for creative visitors, an ecosostenible tailor’s shop, and many other (colored) doors open on the beauty.
The idea is immersive and the answer of the environment enthusiastic. Wikipedia says: Purple Travel nominates the Farm Cultural Park of Favara at the sixth place of the contemporary art world touristic venue after Florence, Paris, Bilbao, the Greek Islands and New York.
The visit ended with a short but fruitful meeting with dr Liotta and some men and women of the sicilian intelligentsia, in order to… think to the next future of Performing Arts Medicine. Soon, many surprises. Now, Top Secret.

Survey on cervical dilatation in wind musicians

Please, help Terrassa Center’s Doctors to conduct this very interesting research.

Due to the air pressure, some musicians experience an enlargement of their neck while playing. Although this is rarely annoying, it can occasionally cause problems. In some cases dilatation of the larynx can even be seen (laryngocele) (see simulation in the picture).

This ANONYMOUS questionnaire aims to study in detail the presence of neck dilatation due to play a wind instrument. WE NEED YOUR PARTICIPATION, WHETHER YOU HAVE DILATED NECK OR NOT. These data will help us to establish future preventive and therapeutic strategies.
